Prepare for Asbestos Removal

Obtain work instructions and participate in review of asbestos removal control plan (ARCP) and safe work method statements (SWMS).
Gather safety requirements and data from an on-site assessment and asbestos register where available.
Use information sources to ensure the ARCP and SWMS are site-specific for the removal of asbestos materials.
Select tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) consistent with job requirements to carry out tasks, check for serviceability, and rectify or report faults prior to commencement.

All asbestos removal shall have a designated exclusion zone or safe work area that is allocated for the unobstructed use. The exclusion zone should be denoted by highly visible lines on the floor.

A Risk Assessment should be undertaken to determine distances and to decide whether in some instances a rigid barrier (handrail) maybe required.
