This standard sets out the requirements for the design and installation of above ground external waterproofing membranes for use in buildings and structures, such a roofs, balconies, landscaped areas, and planter boxes, on all classes of buildings. It is not intended for use in applications below ground level, such as swimming pools and spas, and excludes concrete admixtures or penetrant sealers and decorative coatings.

The standard is provided in two parts – Part 1: Materials and Part 2: Design and installation, which contains some detailed requirements for waterproofing systems to prevent the ingress of water.
