Prepare for Asbestos Removal

Obtain work instructions and participate in review of asbestos removal control plan (ARCP) and safe work method statements (SWMS).
Gather safety requirements and data from an on-site assessment and asbestos register where available.
Use information sources to ensure the ARCP and SWMS are site-specific for the removal of asbestos materials.
Select tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) consistent with job requirements to carry out tasks, check for serviceability, and rectify or report faults prior to commencement.
Notify regulator, occupants, neighbours, and other affected parties according to legislation and within limits of own responsibility and code of practice.
Contribute to the preparation and use of an emergency plan, within limits of own responsibility and according to legislative and company requirements.

Prepare Asbestos Removal Site

Implement signage and barricade requirements to delineate the asbestos removal site according to ARCP.
Prepare and place materials and equipment required for removal of ACM from site.
Set Up Asbestos Work Area

SWMS, WH&S Management Plans
Safety plans shall be prepared by the supervisor in consultation with workers, Principal Contractor, and other stakeholders to ensure all activities are managed safely. The processes identified in these documents shall be communicated to all workers and the workers indicate their understanding of these requirements by counter-signing the documents.

Asbestos register

Management of in situ asbestos containing material is based on its assessed level of risk:

• Maintenance of the registers of asbestos containing material to record all changes in the status of confirmed or presumed asbestos containing material and works undertaken in areas where asbestos containing material has been confirmed, or is presumed, to exist.
• Removal of asbestos containing material based on its assessed level of risk.
• Removal of any identified high risk and/or friable asbestos containing material in a poor condition as an immediate priority.
